Ball X Pit’s Regal Update Hits Ps5 – New Characters, Balls, Endless Mode

Ball x Pit has received a substantial content drop on PlayStation 5. Lead developer Kenny Sun outlined the game’s design journey and the scope of the new patch, titled The Regal Update, in an official blog post. The update expands the survivors-like with fresh characters, new ball types, additional passives, and an Endless Mode. The Regal Update is now available on PS5 and is free for all existing Ball x Pit owners. The team also notes this is one of three free updates planned for the year.

Design Roots – from Commuter Spark to Real-Time Action

Sun traces the project back to November 2021, when a mobile ad for Punball – itself reminiscent of Holedown – prompted an early prototype. The first builds were turn-based: players fired a set of balls, watched the ricochets, then faced advancing enemies. In February 2022, after trying Vampire Survivors, Sun shifted the design to real time – a change he says made the action immediately click.

Ball x Pit’s identity grew around systems that encourage experimentation. A fusion mechanic lets any ball combine with any other to stack effects. Under the hood, ball abilities fall into three categories – status effects, area-of-effect, and unique effects – which guided how fusions power up. A parallel evolution system merges specific sets into entirely new balls, which can then be fused further. For meta progression, the team added a base-building layer that mirrors core play: structures act like bricks, and characters bounce around to upgrade, aiming for thematic coherence instead of a simple stat screen.

What's Inside the Regal Update

The patch focuses on variety – more ways to build runs and new powers to chain together. Below are the confirmed highlights.

Two New Characters

  • The Falconer – fires two balls from birds positioned on each side of the screen, creating a wide, arcing spread.
  • The Carouser – a medieval mischief-maker who bends trajectories with a personal gravity field, pulling shots off their default lines.

Eight New Balls

Eight ball types join the roster, expanding status, area, and unique interactions. Five have been detailed; the remainder are left to discover.

  • Banished Flame – applies a short burn that hits significantly harder than the standard burn.
  • Fireworks – bursts into bright, unpredictable patterns that scatter damage widely.
  • Stone Ball – heavy impact on first hits, then slowly crumbles with continued bounces.
  • Brimstone Ball – behaves like Inferno but adds poison to prolong damage over time.
  • Landslide – triggers a debris wave from the first impact, dealing lingering area damage for several seconds.

Plus three more undisclosed balls are included in the update.

Three New Passives

  • Deadeye’s Impaler – increases critical hit chance; non-boss enemies die instantly on crit.
  • Grotesque Artillery – fires a random ball from your equipped lineup whenever it triggers.
  • Iron Onesie – boosts special-ball damage based on the number of “baby balls” bouncing on the field.

Endless Mode

Endless Mode unlocks after you finish the game. From then on, any cleared level can continue indefinitely once you defeat its boss and choose to proceed deeper. There is no ending here – pressure scales up, runs last longer, and survival hinges on build synergy and execution.

Availability and Platform

The Regal Update is live now on PS5 and is free for all current Ball x Pit players. The studio indicates it is the first of three free content updates planned across the year.

Why This Matters – More Buildcraft and Replay Depth

The Regal Update pushes Ball x Pit’s strengths – fusion-driven builds and reactive ricochet combat – by adding two new characters, eight balls, three passives, and a post-completion Endless Mode. For players, that means more synergies to chase and longer sessions that test how far a good setup can go.
