Code Vein II sets players as a Revenant Hunter marked by a Jail artifact that channels powerful abilities. The campaign sends you into the past to earn the trust of legendary figures and prevent collapse in the present. Alongside this premise comes a deeper combat loop built around Partners – allied fighters who can join you directly or fuse to amplify your stats. A new durability layer, Link Points (LP), changes how you survive damage and how Partner bonuses persist in battle.

The publisher’s latest breakdown focuses on how Partners alter moment-to-moment decision-making, when to keep them active on the field versus merging for raw power, and why managing LP is now as important as managing health.

Two Ways to Fight with Partners: Summoning or Assimilation

Partners can be used in two distinct modes that encourage different approaches to encounters. Summoning deploys an ally to act independently – drawing aggro, attacking targets and providing support, which is ideal for crowd control and multi-enemy engagements. Assimilation merges your Partner with your character to boost stats, powers and abilities, favoring one-on-one duels against tougher foes.

Players can switch or remove Partners at checkpoints, and deepen relationships to unlock stronger passive effects over time, turning team composition into a strategic layer rather than a simple safety net.

Lp Changes Survivability and Buffs

Combat now revolves around two resources: HP and LP (Link Points). Incoming damage depletes LP first; only after LP is exhausted do you begin losing HP. Healing prioritizes HP, and any overflow beyond maximum HP then restores LP.

While your LP link is intact, Partners grant Link Traits – active bonuses that can temporarily drop when your bond weakens due to damage. Separate Partner Trait Bonuses provide passive benefits such as stat boosts or added combat effects, and these can be upgraded by improving your relationship.

  • Lou MagMell – A defensive all-rounder effective at any range, pairing a rapier-style blade with Magic Formae. Support Formae include Prismatic Veil (elemental resistance) and Forma Extension (longer buff duration). Her Bequeathed Forma, Battle Axe: Idris’s Conceit, lands a heavy strike that slows nearby enemies. Her Link Trait restores Ichor when you take damage, enabling steadier exploration under pressure.
  • Josée Anjou – A frontliner with a two-handed sword that easily staggers foes. The Hound trait resists interruption mid-attack, and the Support Skill Precision makes enemies easier to break. Her Link Trait raises your Defense while charging, encouraging synchronized, high-commitment attacks. Her ability Unquenchable Flame blankets groups with sweeping fire pillars.
  • Holly Asturias – A ranged specialist blending bayonet fire with Ice Magic Formae. Her Combat Skill Glacious Barrage unleashes a heavy laser assault, while the Support Formae Panacea’s Essence removes status ailments. Her Link Trait speeds up Formae activation, suiting magic-oriented builds.

Partner Quick Reference – Roles and Standout Effects

The table below summarizes the key role, notable tools and Link Trait for each highlighted ally to help plan your build and encounter strategy.

Revival with Limits: Restorative Offering

Partners can trigger Restorative Offering when your HP hits zero, bringing you back at the cost of the ally being temporarily incapacitated. Each activation has increasing cooldown, and the amount of restored HP decreases with subsequent uses. The mechanic offers insurance in a pinch but cannot be relied on repeatedly in a single push.

Story Setup and Resource Flow

The Revenant Hunter’s Jail artifact enables harnessing innate Revenant abilities, and Partners feed into this loop by sharing Ichor via special Drain attacks. This shared resource economy reinforces the choice between Summoning for battlefield control or Assimilation for reinforced duels, all while managing LP to keep Link Traits active.

Release Timing

Code Vein II is scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S on January 30, 2026. Early Access begins January 26 for owners of the Deluxe, Ultimate and Collector’s Editions.

Why It Matters: Mastering the Bond

Code Vein II reframes companion play as a core system – LP shields your HP, Link Traits shape your build and Summoning versus Assimilation determines encounter flow. Learn the strengths of each Partner and manage LP carefully to carry momentum from skirmishes to boss duels.
