Blizzard is bringing the Paladin to Diablo IV, aligning the fan-favorite class with the upcoming Lord of Hatred chapter. The studio says the design honors the class’s legacy while embracing Diablo IV’s more visceral combat. Expect returning staples like Zeal and Blessed Hammer, a dedicated Oath System for build identity, and a headline transformation inspired by Tyrael’s presence. Alongside the class reveal, Blizzard outlined a limited-time Goblin Greetings holiday event with repeatable rewards.

What defines the new Paladin

The Paladin is framed as a holy combatant – both protector and executioner – channeling divine power through auras, conjurations, and an Angelic Transformation. Blizzard highlights three design pillars that shape the fantasy and feel:

  • The Indomitable Guardian – a steadfast defender who shields allies and controls space.
  • Divine Empowerment – classic arms like sword and shield, plus holy hammers, infused with celestial energy.
  • Holy Conduit – a living channel of heavenly force, with punchy sound and grounded animations to sell impact.

Combat toolkit and returning skills

Built for tactical, “sword-and-board” play, the Paladin leans on a mix of melee pressure and sacred area control. Blizzard confirms the return of Blessed Hammer, Blessed Shield, Condemn, Zeal, and Heaven’s Fury, alongside new abilities that funnel celestial energy into burst damage and battlefield dominance. The class fantasy culminates in Angelic Transformation, letting players briefly ascend into a divine avatar to reshape the fight.

Oath System – four paths, four identities

The Paladin’s unique class mechanic, the Oath System, introduces four thematic paths that deepen customization and playstyle clarity:

  • Juggernaut – converts defense into offense with Shield Bash and triggers Fortress to become highly resistant for a short window.
  • Zealot – embraces high-tempo melee with an updated Zeal, finishing in Zenith, a flurry of holy blades.
  • Judicator – dishes out sacred judgment with conjurations like Consecration and Heaven’s Fury for area control and pressure.
  • Disciple – leans fully into Angelic Transformation, unleashing Spears of the Heavens and soaring in Arbiter Form.

Holiday event: Goblin Greetings

Blizzard also detailed Goblin Greetings, a limited-time celebration that unites March of the Goblins, Gift of the Tree, and holiday-themed cosmetics. During the event, Holiday Goblins replace regular treasure goblins, and there are six unique variants linked to individual kills. Each defeat advances an infinitely repeatable reward track, with new reputation tiers increasing drop rates. A special encounter with Fancy Old Fedric can yield an extremely rare Mythic item.

Why it matters – a classic returns with modern depth

The Paladin broadens Diablo IV’s class roster with clear build identities via Oaths, nostalgic skill callbacks, and a high-impact transformation that changes combat rhythm. For players, it means a flexible holy bruiser that can tank, cleave, or take to the skies – plus a seasonal event that rewards sustained play with repeatable progression.
