Starter Dominion strips extras for a level 4v4 field in For Honor
For Honor’s most-played mode, Dominion, is getting a streamlined spin. Ubisoft is rolling out Starter Dominion – a limited-time 4v4 variant aimed at new and returning players – that slots into the multiplayer playlist on December 4-18, then returns on January 29-February 12. The mode keeps Dominion’s core objectives while removing progression-based advantages. You can queue with friends, and any empty spots are auto-filled by the game’s level 3 bots. The intent is clear: reduce friction for fresh entrants without changing the fundamental flow.
How Starter Dominion plays

The rules mirror classic Dominion. Two teams of four fight over three control zones. Holding zones passively generates points for your team. On reaching 1,000 points, the opposing side enters Breaking – they can no longer respawn. Eliminate all opponents during Breaking to close out the match.
What’s different from Dominion
Starter Dominion levels the field by switching off systems that can amplify experienced players’ loadouts. In this playlist, only individual skill separates teams – no unlock-based advantages apply.
- Gear Perks – Disabled. These passive bonuses from earned gear do not apply.
- Feats – Disabled. No passive or activated abilities that buff allies or debuff foes.
- Stamina – Disabled. The resource that normally gates attack output is off.
- Revenge – Disabled. The anti-gank meter and its shield/stamina effects are unavailable.
Each of these is normally customizable in standard Dominion and can tilt engagements in favor of veteran players. With them removed, Starter Dominion simplifies combat to its essentials.

Matchmaking specifics
You can form a group with friends as usual; any unfilled positions are backfilled by the game’s strongest AI (level 3), ensuring full 4v4 matches.
Availability – test schedule
Starter Dominion is a limited-time mode running across two test windows. The dates are below.
Why it matters
Starter Dominion lowers the entry barrier for anyone curious about For Honor’s tactical melee without the pressure of loadout metas. It’s a clean way to relearn fundamentals or try heroes before diving back into full Dominion.
