Halo’s first PlayStation release brings a rebuilt original campaign
Halo is officially heading to PlayStation – and it is doing so by revisiting where the series began. The newly announced Halo: Campaign Evolved is a ground-up rebuild of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign, confirmed for PlayStation 5 in 2026. The project modernizes visuals, audio, and controls while adding new missions and systems. The move marks the first Halo release on PlayStation, with the studio emphasizing co-op and cross-platform support.
Announcing the news, the team framed the project as a way to welcome new players while respecting a 25-year legacy. As the official post put it:

Halo is coming to PlayStation.
Back to the ring – the original story, rebuilt

Campaign Evolved returns to the story that introduced the Master Chief, Cortana, the Covenant, and the mystery of the Halo ring. The full campaign is present, with each mission enhanced by high-definition visuals and brand-new cinematics. Beyond graphics, the studio says it has overhauled controls, movement, wayfinding, and overall combat flow to meet modern expectations.
Audio gets equal attention: the soundtrack is fully remastered and sound design has been rebuilt to deepen immersion without altering the core identity of the original.
What’s new in Campaign Evolved
- Three new prequel missions – starring the Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, set before Halo: Combat Evolved, with fresh locations, gameplay beats, and characters.
- Nine additional weapons – pulled from across the series to expand the original arsenal and sharpen combat variety.
- Vehicle hijacking and Wraith control – for the first time in a Halo: CE campaign, commandeer enemy vehicles, including the Covenant Wraith tank.
- Largest set of Skulls to date – optional modifiers remix missions with randomized weapons, enemies, and environments; variants range from challenge-focused (e.g., HUD disabled) to playful (yes, Grunt headshots still pop confetti).
Co-op, cross-play, and progression
Cooperative play remains central. The campaign supports 4-player online co-op plus 2-player couch co-op on PS5. Cross-play and cross-progression are enabled across console and PC, broadening how – and with whom – players can tackle the story.

I think we’re just getting started.
Why it matters – a classic, opened to new players
Campaign Evolved brings Halo’s foundational story to PlayStation for the first time, pairing preservation with meaningful upgrades and modern co-op across platforms. For long-time fans it is a new way to revisit the ring; for PS5 players it is the most accessible entry point to a landmark sci-fi shooter.
