Ella Mental joins Invincible VS roster with full gameplay
Skybound’s 3v3 tag fighter Invincible VS is expanding its roster with Ella Mental – the series’ first original character built specifically for the game. Co-created by Invincible’s Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, the hero was revealed at The Game Awards alongside an extended gameplay showcase. Developed by Skybound’s in-house studio Quarter Up, Ella’s kit centers on multi-element control and ranged pressure. Invincible VS is based on the comic book and TV series. The game is scheduled to launch on April 30, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud as an Xbox Play Anywhere title.
Who Ella Mental is in the Invincible universe

Ella is portrayed as energetic and solution‑driven, coming from a wealthy family but grounded by a humble, hardworking outlook. Favored by her grandfather, she gains access to an ancient totem that grants control over earth, water, fire, and air. That family dynamic is intentionally atypical for Invincible – her parents are depicted as supportive, a contrast to many characters in the series.
"What was cool was that this idea gave Cory Walker and I an opportunity to create someone new," said Robert Kirkman. "Our way into the character was a ridiculous-sounding name we came up with: Ella Mental. We thought, 'hey, look at that, that sounds like an Invincible-type name.'"

"The name originated from Robert, and from that came the element-based powerset," added Cory Walker. "I just started throwing stuff on her, and it was important that everything be asymmetrical, and just overall cool-looking."
"The Invincible universe's thing is that everyone has terrible parents, so we wanted to give Ella nice parents and a constructive family dynamic."

How she plays – elemental zoning with burst options
Quarter Up positions Ella primarily as a ranged fighter. She channels Elemental Auras to adapt her plan and empower Special Moves, creating flexible pressure in the air and on the ground. The studio notes it optimized visual effects across four elements to preserve performance during heavy on‑screen action.

- Earth Wall – Conjures a floating mass of earth that can serve as cover or be destroyed to trigger a shotgun‑style blast.
- Water Needle – Compresses water between her hands and fires it forward like a high‑speed projectile.
- Flame Burst – Summons rolling flames that linger before a large explosion.
- Elemental Auras – Adjusts spacing, pressure, and upgrades specials to fit different matchups.
Suggested team synergies include pairing Ella with Robot for juggle setups and Atom Eve for power‑focused strings. Developers recommend learning her ranges to fully exploit her zoning and conversion potential.
