Mavrix – a new open-world mountain biking game headed by UK Red Bull rider Matt Jones – has launched in Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S. The project began in February 2024 at Cascade Interactive and aims to blend authenticity with accessibility. The world is inspired by Wales, with multiplayer exploration, trails and event hubs across mountainous terrain. The current Game Preview build arrives with a significant physics overhaul and a dedicated Slopestyle mode. The team positions Mavrix as a grounded take on MTB that still leaves room for expression and competition.

Jones, known for first-of-their-kind tricks and major slopestyle results, led design decisions to keep the game close to real riding – from handling to event structure. Development started with his Cascade Interactive co-founders in February 2024, focusing on the balance between authenticity and fun.

“I grew up playing extreme sports games like SSX Tricky, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Downhill Domination… I set out to build a realistic and authentic mountain bike game that represents everything I’ve learned through my career.” – Matt Jones

Open-World Wales with Multiplayer Focus

The map is a large, connected space modeled on Wales, designed for free-roam riding and quick access to events. Players can ride chairlifts, discover new trails, chase global leaderboards and enter slopestyle trick competitions. Progression mirrors real MTB culture – you can pursue sponsorships and earn in-game currency, “Moolah”, to expand your bike and gear collection.

Controls Tuned for Realism

Mavrix uses dual-stick inputs to balance bike steering and rider movement, aiming for precision on jumps, berms and technical sections. For braking, the team split the front and rear brakes onto separate triggers, creating distinctive handling that rewards technique and timing.

Iconic Challenges Recreated

Several signature moments from Jones’s career appear in-game. Players can attempt the Red Bull Hardline River Gap and the stunt of jumping through two moving lorries – set-pieces built to test bike control and commitment.

New Physics and Slopestyle Mode

The Game Preview release includes a sizeable update featuring reworked physics and a Slopestyle mode designed to reflect real event flow and scoring. Judging and commentary in this mode are presented with authenticity, including in-game commentary from Rob Warner.
