GameChat and GameShare on Nintendo Switch 2 – how they work and which games support them
Nintendo has outlined how GameChat and GameShare function on Nintendo Switch 2, highlighting several games that tap into these features. GameShare lets one console share compatible software for multiplayer sessions, while GameChat is the system’s built-in voice and screen-sharing hub for online play. GameShare works both online via GameChat and locally, including sessions with a nearby Nintendo Switch. Meanwhile, GameChat is available without a Nintendo Switch Online membership until March 31, 2026, after which a membership will be required.
How GameShare works

GameShare allows a Nintendo Switch 2 to share selected titles so others can join a session even if they do not own the game. A Switch 2 must initiate the GameShare session. Users receiving the shared software can only play it during the active session – once it ends, access ends. Online GameShare runs over GameChat; local wireless sharing works between Switch 2 and Switch 2 or Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment – co-op tactics and Sync Strikes

This entry focuses on large-scale battles with playable characters including Princess Zelda and King Rauru. GameShare supports online co-op via GameChat on Switch 2 and local wireless on both Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. Players can coordinate Sync Strikes to split objectives and pressure the front line together.

Availability and requirements
- GameChat open-access window: available without Nintendo Switch Online until March 31, 2026; a membership will be required afterward.
- Online features: Internet and Nintendo Account are required for online play, including GameChat.
- GameShare specifics: a Switch 2 must initiate the session; recipients can play only while the session is active.

Why it matters – easier drop‑in multiplayer across the Switch family
With GameShare, one host can bring friends into select games without extra purchases, and GameChat centralizes voice and coordination on Switch 2. For players, that means lower friction to play together – online or in the same room – and clear support windows to plan around as GameChat’s open access continues until March 31, 2026.
