Singapore indie team kopiforge has released Sedap! A Culinary Adventure on PC and Xbox Series X|S. The studio formed just three months after graduating university and turned a one-level prototype into a full-fledged debut. Sedap! blends co-op kitchen management with light combat, sending players across the mysterious Khaya Island to cook dishes inspired by Southeast Asia. The team outlines a first-time development journey marked by tight iteration, optimization hurdles, and a crash course in publishing. Funding came via the ID@Xbox program and small private investments, followed by a late-2024 publishing deal with Isolated Games.

What the game is about

Sedap! A Culinary Adventure brings SEA flavors to co-op action

Sedap! is a co-op, cooking-combat adventure centered on preparing iconic dishes from across Southeast Asia. Players control best friends Som and Gon as they explore Khaya Island, uncovering recipes that are fantastical reimaginings of real regional cuisines. Ingredients are gathered by hunting monsters inspired by Southeast Asian mythologies, tying the cooking loop to light action encounters.

  • Co-op focus – play around a shared kitchen with coordinated roles.
  • Cooking-combat loop – battle creatures to secure ingredients, then prep and plate under time pressure.
  • Khaya Island journey – discover new dishes and regions as you progress.
  • Out now – available on PC and Xbox Series X|S.

New studio, first ship – and overcoming the learning curve

The team candidly notes this is their first shipped game. With no prior end-to-end production experience, they leaned on tutorials, frequent playtests, and constant design reviews to reduce repetition and improve flow. Missteps like scope bloat and the need for better optimization surfaced early, prompting course corrections. Periodic bouts of imposter syndrome were countered by internal morale boosts and receptive feedback from trailers and testers.

Funding and publishing

Early development ran alongside a broad publisher outreach – the team sent more than a hundred pitches and faced many rejections. They kept the project moving with ID@Xbox funding and small contributions from friends. In late 2024, kopiforge signed with Isolated Games, calling the process a valuable introduction to industry pitching and partnerships.

Designing a menu that represents the region

Building Sedap!’s menu became one of its most creative challenges. The team initially sketched about 100 dishes, aiming to represent all 11 countries in the region and include national staples – from Mohinga (Myanmar) to Chicken Rice (Singapore). For release, the list was trimmed to 51 dishes to ensure ingredient overlap and sustainable production. Common items like eggs help bridge recipes across plates such as Khao Jee and Mee Goreng. Some concepts were cut due to unique ingredient needs, including Kaipen, Sambal Stingray, and Nam Wan.

Final takeaway – a debut built on iteration and regional flavor

Sedap! pairs co-op kitchen chaos with myth-infused ingredient hunts, channeling a diverse set of Southeast Asian dishes into a single loop. For players, it means a focused, collaborative experience with a menu of 51 dishes that reflect the region’s breadth. As kopiforge’s first release, it also spotlights how small teams can ship by iterating quickly, listening to feedback, and securing targeted funding and publishing support.
