Ubisoft has launched a new Skull and Bones season called Eye of the Beast, expanding high-seas action across the Indian Ocean. The headline is a multi-crew Kraken encounter that unfolds over several stages, pushing coordination and ship builds harder than before. A second large-sized ship – the Corvette – also joins the roster with a support-DPS role built around teamwide buffs. The update ties into ongoing Faction War objectives, introduces a refreshed Smuggler’s Pass, and kicks off Year 2 with time-limited events. A round of gameplay tweaks targets everyday sailing and combat quality-of-life.

Kraken Encounter: a Multi-Phase Test for Crews

A colossal sea monster surfaces as the toughest PvE threat to date, structured across five battle phases. The creature cycles through attacks – whirlpools, tentacle slams, ink strikes, and poison fog – to pressure positioning and timing. Unlike earlier beasts, the Kraken can damage multiple ships at once, making coordination, role coverage, and consistent damage windows essential for survival.

The Corvette: Second Large Ship with Support-Dps Focus

The Corvette arrives as Skull and Bones’ second large-sized ship, tuned to help a fleet hit harder and recover faster. Its passive perk, Flagbearer, grants a Flag Mark each time you deal damage or heal allies – stacking up to 20 – and unlocks team-oriented buffs. Players can obtain the Corvette’s blueprint by completing 45 tiers in the Smuggler’s Pass.

  • 1% damage against enemies per stack (up to 20%) OR 2.5% increased healing per stack (up to 50%).
  • Non-hostile extra-small, small, and medium ships within a 500 meter radius gain 5% increased damage and 5% healing amount.
  • Increased hull health restored by repair weapons (5% per repair weapon equipped).
  • At 20 stacks, enemies take 10% additional weakpoint damage; allies receive 1% of repair received on Severe Damage – lasting 20 seconds.

Faction War Expands Territorial Play

The struggle between the Compagnie Royale and the Dutch Merchant Company intensifies. Crews can capture and defend strategic locations while converting manufactories into production chains that benefit their chosen side. Defense and Raid events pit rival-faction players against each other, with victories feeding buffs and passive effects back into a player’s Helm empire.

Smuggler's Pass: Weapons, Armor, Cosmetics, and a Companion

This season’s track broadens both build options and style kits. Combat gear centers on a torpedo launcher and survivability armor, while cosmetics expand naval identity. There is also a new shipboard companion for flavor.

  • Woundcaller – torpedo launcher that triggers taunt and stacks damage.
  • Tide’s Reprieve – armor that stacks repairs and recovers brace strength.
  • Cosmetic sets – Sunken Watchers, Jaeger’s Pursuit, Widow’s Embrace, and others.
  • Miles the Menace – a grizzled lemur ship companion.

Year 2 Events and Returning Challenges

The Founding Event marks Year 2 from February 10 – March 10. Players can complete challenges to earn rewards and collect Silver Lions, a currency redeemable for special items in Sainte Anne – including a fully crafted Frigate. A new sea shanty album, Songs of the Sea Volume 2, is available now and will be added to the game later in the season.

Mid-season, The Legend of Nian returns with a strengthened foe. Defeating the Nian grants new gear, cosmetic items, and Ascension materials to push builds further.

Quality-of-Life Updates for Smoother Sailing

Eye of the Beast also fine-tunes core systems to reduce downtime and broaden combat options. These adjustments focus on inventory clarity, faster ship management, and expanded weapon coverage for smaller hulls. Ballistics see changes aimed at a more tactile feel in naval firefights.

  • New inventory tabs for cargo and warehouse.
  • Ability to manage your ship without docking.
  • Rear weapons now available on small ships.
  • Tuning to weapon ballistics for greater immersion.

Bottom Line – a Season Built Around Coordination and Fleet Roles

Eye of the Beast centers on crew coordination and fleet synergy: a Kraken that pressures multiple ships, a Corvette that rewards team play, and faction systems that tie battles to broader progression. If your group enjoys multi-ship problem solving and incremental power gains across a season, this update gives you new reasons to set sail – and new tools to survive what waits beneath the waves.
