Stoic has locked in a full release for its cooperative side-scrolling action RPG brawler Towerborne. After launching in Xbox Game Preview in April, the game exits early access on February 26, 2026. The studio confirmed a major 1.0 update that reshapes how the game is accessed and played. Alongside a complete story arc, players can expect reworked systems, new enemies and progression tools.

Stoic is pivoting the project away from its initial free-to-play, always-online setup to a buy-once model with full offline support and optional online co-op. The team says this required reworking systems originally built around constant connectivity, aiming to make the experience more straightforward for solo and cooperative play. Xbox Play Anywhere support is included, and the game is listed as handheld verified in the official announcement.

What’s new in the 1.0 update

The launch build folds in narrative closure, progression tweaks and fresh endgame-style challenges. Here are the highlights confirmed by the studio:

  • Complete story and finale – a finished narrative arc featuring a primary antagonist, expanded side quests and an overhauled Bounty Board.
  • More bosses and enemy variants – two additional bosses (including the main villain), plus new lieutenants and umbra foes.
  • Reworked difficulty – a full rebalance with an entirely new structure and a ‘Brutal’ setting for those seeking the toughest fights.
  • World map update – a redesigned map and a new coastal biome.
  • Combat and gear depth – new player abilities and equipment, plus a Forge system to modify, upgrade and re-roll stats.
  • Quality-of-life changes – new music by Austin Wintory, multiple save slots, and no cosmetic purchasing; all cosmetics are obtainable through gameplay.

Platforms and availability

The studio outlined a broad platform rollout for the 1.0 launch. The table below captures the core facts at a glance.

For early access players

Existing players can import their current character and associated loot into the full release, with multiple save slots supported. Stoic points to an official FAQ for transition specifics and item handling across versions: https://www.towerborne.com/FAQ. The studio also acknowledged community feedback as a key driver of changes woven into the 1.0 update.

Player takeaway – what this means for you

Towerborne’s 1.0 release consolidates the experience into a campaign-complete, offline-capable package while keeping co-op intact. If you’ve been waiting for a finished story, tougher endgame options and clear progression systems, the February 26 date marks a clean entry point. Veterans can continue their journey with imported saves and a broader set of challenges.
