Borderlands 4 is getting a new playable Vault Hunter named C4SH, revealed during the series’ panel at Tokyo Game Show 2025. The character debuts alongside the first post-launch Story Pack titled Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, planned for Q1 2026. The add-on introduces a new area on Kairos and multiple main and side missions, plus fresh gear to chase. C4SH’s kit leans hard into randomness and risk, aiming to reward bold plays. The publisher’s roadmap also points to ongoing, free updates with new challenges for all players.

C4SH is a former casino dealer bot turned drifter, drawn to probability-bending relics and cursed artifacts. That obsession aligns with Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned’s focus on cosmic horrors and uncanny curios – a setting that thematically supports a character built around luck and calculated gambles.

How C4SH plays: chance-driven tools, deliberate payoffs

Like other Vault Hunters, C4SH has three Action Skills and access to three skill trees – each with three branches of passives and Action Skill modifiers. The twist is that his abilities introduce an element of chance, pushing a risk-reward style that can result in party buffs, heavy damage spikes, enemy debuffs, and more. Full mechanical breakdowns are not yet public, with additional details to come ahead of release.

What Story Pack 1 brings to Borderlands 4

  • Title: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned
  • Release window: planned for Q1 2026 (timing subject to change)
  • Scope: new zone on Kairos with multiple main and side missions
  • Playable addition: C4SH as a new Vault Hunter
  • Progression: new gear to earn

Borderlands 4’s post-launch plan identifies this as the first of two Story Packs. During the TGS 2025 panel, the team also set expectations that more footage of C4SH in action will arrive in the coming months. Watch the reveal clip here:

Roadmap signals: free updates alongside paid story content
