Bounty Pack 1 goes free in Borderlands 4 as 2026 roadmap expands

Borderlands 4 is rolling out a holiday surprise and a clearer post-launch roadmap. Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day is now free for all players and arrives with today’s November 20 Update at 9AM PT. The studio also confirmed a fifth Bounty Pack in 2026 to balance entitlements for edition owners, plus a free endgame Takedown coming in 2026. In the nearer term, the first “Invincible” raid-style boss, Bloomreaper, lands in December alongside Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode – Level 6.
Borderlands 4 continues to receive monthly and weekly updates targeting stability, performance and balance, with additional endgame tweaks planned for early next year. Official video briefing:
What’s live today – Bounty Pack 1 goes free
The holiday-themed Bounty Pack 1 pairs you with Rush to confront Minister Screw and celebrate Mercenary Day. It’s delivered via the November 20 Update at 9AM PT. After updating, start the mission from a gift-wrapped present marked on the map in any major hub.
- Free for all players starting November 20
- Includes a Vault Card featuring 4 new pieces of rerollable gear and 24 new cosmetics
- Designed to be playable at any point in your leveling journey; activating the Vault Card accelerates progression while awarding cosmetics and gear
2026 addition – Bounty Pack 5
Because Bounty Pack 1 is now free, the team is adding Bounty Pack 5 in 2026 for owners of the Deluxe Edition, Super Deluxe Edition and the Bounty Pack Bundle. This ensures those players still receive four premium Bounty Packs overall. With the new pack, those edition owners will now get five Bounty Packs in total.
Bounty Packs vs. Story Packs – different scopes, different goals
Bounty Packs focus on cosmetics, new gear and bite-sized missions culminating in a boss fight, aimed at early to mid-game players. Each pack delivers a Vault Card’s worth of unlocks and dives deeper into characters and stories on Kairos.
Story Packs are the most substantial DLC: a brand-new playable Vault Hunter, multiple main and side missions in a new zone, new gear, and extensive cosmetics. The first Story Pack arrives in Q1 2026 – Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned – bringing back Ellie in a cosmic-horror setting. It also introduces C4SH, a former casino-dealer bot with three unique Action Skills and branching skill trees.

Endgame updates – free Takedown and “Invincible” bosses
Responding to demand for tougher content, the team has begun work on a free Takedown slated for 2026. Expect an extremely challenging gauntlet through a new area with hordes of enemies and fresh boss encounters. This sits on top of other endgame additions already planned.
Bloomreaper arrives in December
The first “Invincible” boss, Bloomreaper, lands in December alongside Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode – Level 6. “Invincible” here evokes classic Borderlands raid bosses – not literally unkillable, but built with massive health pools, lethal attacks and new modifiers that demand optimized builds. Defeating them opens the door to all-new Legendary loot.
Ongoing live support
The team plans to continue monthly updates with broad improvements and balance changes and weekly refreshes that rotate activities and address reported issues. Additional endgame improvements are targeted for early next year.
