Table of Content Зміст статті

CD PROJEKT co-founder and major shareholder Michał Kiciński has purchased 100% of GOG, the DRM-free PC games store he originally helped launch in 2008. The deal values the company at PLN 90.7 million. GOG will continue to run as an independent platform with its established DRM-free approach to game ownership. Following the sale, CD PROJEKT and GOG signed a distribution agreement that includes plans to release future CD PROJEKT RED titles on GOG. Funding for the acquisition was secured at closing and did not involve selling any of Kiciński’s CD PROJEKT shares.

What changes for GOG and players

Operationally, GOG remains focused on DRM-free releases and on keeping classic titles playable on modern PCs. Under the new ownership, the platform’s direction stays consistent with its founding principles.

  • Independence preserved – GOG continues to operate independently.
  • DRM-free philosophy – the store maintains its stance on game ownership.
  • Ongoing cooperation with CD PROJEKT – a new distribution deal covers upcoming CD PROJEKT RED releases.
  • Focus on classics and retro spirit – the catalog strategy continues to emphasize timeless games and modern titles with retro DNA.

Official comments

Kiciński underscored that the store’s core values are unchanged and tied to lasting ownership for players.

“From the very beginning, GOG has always been built on strong values and clear principles… ensure that once you buy a game, it truly belongs to you — forever.”

He also indicated an interest in bringing new retro-inspired projects to the platform.

“Beyond preserving classics, GOG has always sought out new games with a retro spirit… I am personally involved in the development of a few games like that and they will certainly make their strong appearance on GOG in 2026.”

GOG’s leadership highlighted the platform’s role in reviving and maintaining access to older titles.

“GOG and Michał Kiciński are aligned by a shared belief that games should live forever… we’re doubling down on reviving classics and keeping them playable on modern PCs.”

CD PROJEKT’s management framed the move as a focus shift toward its development roadmap while maintaining release plans on GOG.

“With our focus now fully on an ambitious development roadmap… our upcoming releases will naturally be available on GOG as well.”

Background and context

GOG has operated within the CD PROJEKT Group for over 17 years, collaborating closely with CD PROJEKT RED on releases including The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077. The platform is known for DRM-free distribution and efforts to keep classic PC games accessible and functional on contemporary systems. GoodGame Advisors LLC acted as the financial advisor to CD PROJEKT in this transaction. Additional regulatory information is provided in CD PROJEKT’s current report no. 20/2025.

Why it matters for players

Ownership first, with continuity for upcoming releases – GOG’s independence and DRM-free policy remain intact, while a fresh distribution deal keeps future CD PROJEKT RED titles in the store. If you value permanent access and classic catalog support, this transition aims to strengthen exactly that.
