Tencent Esports and the Olympic Council of Asia have entered a 10-year strategic partnership, elevating their cooperation from individual event support to long-term system co-construction. Under the agreement, Tencent Esports becomes the Official Esports Technology Partner of the OCA. The partnership focuses on technology, shared standards, and ecosystem development to further integrate esports with the broader sports movement. The move formalizes years of collaboration across multiple Asian Games cycles.

The agreement centers on building a sustainable framework for Asian esports – from competition operations to shared rules and technical standards. The goal is to deliver fair, stable, and efficient tournament environments at continental multi-sport events and beyond, aligning esports operations with traditional sports governance.

How They Got Here

  • 2018 – Esports entered the Jakarta Asian Games as a demonstration sport with technical support from Tencent Esports.
  • 2022 – The OCA and Tencent Esports upgraded their strategic cooperation.
  • 19th Asian Games Hangzhou – Esports debuted as an official medal event, with Tencent Esports providing core technical support.

Formalized at the Oca Board Meeting

The long-term cooperation was cemented with a Memorandum of Understanding signed during the 101st OCA Executive Board Meeting in Bahrain in October 2025. As part of the institutional setup, Yati Zhang, Director of Tencent Esports, has been appointed OCA Esports Manager to help co-build the event system and guide ecosystem development.

Technology Backbone: Tencent Esports Competition System (Ecs)

Building on deployments at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou, Tencent Esports is rolling out the Tencent Esports Competition System (ECS). The platform aggregates operations experience from multiple top-tier events to provide end-to-end, high-availability support for future Asian Games and other major regional competitions. ECS is designed to enforce standardized protocols that emphasize competitive integrity, stability, and operational efficiency.

Beyond events, Tencent Esports will deliver technical solutions and standards to accelerate the digital transformation of major Asian tournaments, aiming to improve credibility and streamline tournament operations across the region.

Industry Framework: the "Tri-Pillar Drive" Model

Tencent Esports outlined an integrated development model to guide how esports aligns with global sports structures. The three pillars are:

  • Publisher Tech Ecosystem – engine for innovation and game-ready infrastructure;
  • Continental and global sports bodies (e.g., the OCA) – authoritative platform for governance and recognition;
  • National and regional esports strategies – execution layer for policies and implementation.

What Officials Are Saying

“This partnership is not just an upgrade in title, but a unification of responsibility … Asian esports has moved from an era of participation to one of system co-construction.” — Dr. Husain Al‑Musallam, OCA Director General
