Inside The Blood of Dawnwalker’s folk-driven score and combat themes
An official blog update shines a light on the musical direction of The Blood of Dawnwalker, the upcoming dark fantasy project from Rebel Wolves. The studio frames the soundtrack around protagonist Coen’s inner conflict and the world’s ancient forces, pairing grounded instrumentation with sweeping orchestration. Music is designed to mirror the game’s day–night duality that shapes both story and gameplay. Combat cues aim to enhance fast, tactical encounters without losing the setting’s folklore roots. The team also confirmed plans to bring the OST to streaming platforms in the near future.
Music that follows Coen’s path

At the heart of the score is Coen – a young man caught between his beliefs, the vampiric takeover, and the need to protect his family. The soundtrack balances his personal journey with the broader turmoil of Vale Sangora, keeping the character grounded rather than superhuman. This approach informs both arrangement and performance, favoring authenticity and detail over spectacle.
“We wanted the music to be grounded, to show that we as Coen are not a superhero, but a protagonist, with real challenges.”

Lead Composer Nikola Kołodziejczyk adds that the team focused on intimate timbres and expressive playing to keep the emotional stakes personal.
“That informed the instrumentation choices, the sound and the flow of the piece – with intimate, detailed character of the instruments, focus on the authenticity of the performance.”

Combat scoring that hits with pace and purpose
The update highlights how music shifts when blades clash and powers emerge. Encounters are described as dynamic and fast-paced, with room for tactical maneuvering and a consistent layer of magic and supernatural abilities. The piece “Battle of Retribution” accompanies a confrontation with Mihai, matching the rhythm of close-quarters combat.
“The combat is dynamic and fast-paced, with room for tactical maneuvering but there is always a touch of magic and a healthy dose of supernatural abilities.”
According to Kołodziejczyk, the goal was to amplify the moment action begins – adding more “kick” without breaking the game’s grounded tone.

Influences: 14th-century folk roots, loss and hope
The team cites themes of loss of loved ones, encroaching darkness, and enduring hope and love as the score’s emotional pillars. Sonically, the music leans into 14th-century Europe and the folk aesthetics associated with communities at the foot of the mountains. The result is a soundscape that blends historical color with the game’s supernatural edge.

Why it matters: a score that shapes play and place
The Blood of Dawnwalker’s music aims to do more than set mood – it tracks Coen’s choices, underlines the day–night split, and reinforces the game’s fast combat and folklore setting. For players, it signals a character-first, era-authentic soundscape you can sample now, with more to come once the OST lands on streaming.
